Mood Board Monday: Inspired by Downton

DowntonAbbey

So the other day while I was browsing around the internet I discovered that Highclere Castle, the real life castle where the hit PBS show Downton Abbey is filmed, is rentable for weddings and events.  Seriously.  This fabulously luxurious castle is located about an hour outside of London, and for the low low price of 15,000 GBP (around $23,000 US) you can rent the castle and grounds for your event.  Now keep in mind that this is just the site fee, but if you have the cash to spend, and are in the UK, it could be worth a look.  Check out the Highclere website for more info on hosting a wedding or event at the castle.  Or, if you’re a fan of the show and are in the UK you can pretend that you’re a Crawley for the day by taking a tour of the castle and grounds for around $30.

Ok, so what about the rest of us poor folk stuck here in the US?  Below I’ve put together an inspiration board to show how you can plan an event that is castle worthy, while not breaking the bank.  The key here is to think big on one or two items for the ‘wow’ factor,  keep the colors light and muted, and add some vintage charm.  It also doesn’t hurt to incorporate gold and silver, as these colors always make things seem more luxurious.
